Jim, tell us about your family...

I was adopted by Daryel & Evelyn Person in 1972, when I was almost four years old. On December 17th, 2003, I married Hannah. She loves good books and pizza. Our house also includes four children: Autum (1/7/1995) loves keeping in touch with her friends on Facebook, the color teal and any food you consider “junk” food. Amy (8/1/1996) is a fan of the color blue and spaghetti (but not blue spaghetti). Kaitlyn (9/4/2004) can spend hours coloring (her favorite color is red) and playing with her dolls. Josh (9/27/2005) loves to beat me up while playing “Hulk” and enjoys a nice bowl of Peanut Butter Crunch cereal.

What are 5 words that I could use to describe you?

Loving, Forgiving, Trustworthy, Fun and Jesus freak.

How and when did you become a Christian?

I was raised a Christian. I grew up in a Christian home, went to a Christian school, and was very active in the New Hope youth group. I knew I was called into ministry, but I wanted to keep control of my life. Because of this, I lived a life that was not Godly. I talked about Him a lot, but I didn’t follow Him.

After high school, I worked at a string of dead-end jobs, until I attended and graduated from a one year Bible college in 1993. When I came back to Hillsdale, I began looking for a job in youth ministry. However, I was quickly back to making the same mistakes as before, with the same unhappiness.

Finally, on October 16th of 1999, I gave my whole life to God. I have changed a lot since then, and I still have struggles in my life. The difference is now I am not controlled by my sin, but by the Holy Spirit.

If you had to choose one section of scripture from the Bible as your “Life Verse”, what would it be?

Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 3:13-14

What is your vision for New Hope Church?

In a word - growth. I want to see the church grow as people meet Jesus. I also want to see the people who make up the church grow spiritually as we get to know Jesus better.
